Southwest Airlines CEO Talks to THE TICKET about ATL
When Southwest Airlines was bidding for bankrupt Frontier Airlines earlier this summer, there was a lot of hope and excitement around the possibility of Atlanta finally getting some Southwest LUV. (The thought was that Southwest would have taken over Frontier’s routes between Denver and Atlanta, providing an opening to its network.)
Alas, that never came to pass. Frontier was rescued by Republic Airways, and will continue to operate as Frontier with few changes.
But with thoughts of Southwest dancing in our heads and those of our readers, we were very excited when Southwest Airlines’ CEO Gary Kelly agreed to have a chat with THE TICKET at the recent National Business Travel Association convention in San Diego.
We told him of the excitement that the possibility of having Southwest in Atlanta had stirred up in the local media and among frequent travelers. So we asked him if serving Atlanta was still in the realm of possibility. His answer: Maybe.
Here’s the one minute interview!

I will be the first in line when SW comes to ATL. I use it whenever possible in other areas. Can’t beat their service or prices. Loved it when I lived in the Chicago-area; have missed it (or a comparable airline) for the past 20 years.
