I have a friend who swears by No Jet Lag, but he flies from CA to Chile -- only about a 3-hour difference. I tried it once from CA to Europe and didn't notice that it helped. My solution, if I can swing it, is to get an evening flight out of CA, which gets me into Europe usually in the evening as well. I get a little sleep on the plane, but arrive exhausted. But since it's already late when I arrive, I don't have to suffer for long. I then take a sleeping pill to get me through the night. I awake feeling fairly refreshed, since I've slept a whole night, and am able to get through the day without too much discomfort.

I use Provigil. It works well at keeping you up with out giving you the jitters. I can see how it can help when you first get some place and need to make it through the first few days until you get adapted to the new time zone.

I have used Provigil for almost a year now, and find it to be a "miracle" drug for jetlag as well as many other ailments. It is astonishing! Somewhat like a stimulant in its results, it has almost no side effects and is a completely beneficial option for dealing with stresses to both the body and mind. Insurance companies (mine, two different ones) are reluctant to pay for it and it is quite expensive - so make sure your physician supports you and is willing to work on your behalf. I cannot emphasize enough the miraculous powers of this tiny pill!! Get yours soon!

When I go overseas, I still avoid scheduling anything very important the first day that I arrive. If I can swing it, I even try to get a snooze for a couple of hours. Basically, I plan for being only 50% productive the first day. It is very important that I get a good night's sleep the first night that I am in the new city. For this I rely on sleeping pills to help me. I have good luck with a sleeping tablet that I purchased at an Australian Pharmacy. If you are in Australia, I highly recommend it. I don't remember the name, but if you ask the pharmacist about it, and they will sell it to you.
