The burger craze has certainly hit Atlanta in the past year as several burger-focused eateries are popping up all over town.  I decided to see what the buzz was all about and visit the latest modern-day burger joint, YEAH! BURGER.  The restaurant is owned and operated by Chef Shaun Doty of Shaun’s in Inman Park and entrepreneur Erik Maier.  Since Doty is normally known for his upscale fare, I was curious to see how his casual burger joint would pan out.

We arrived at YEAH! BURGER on a Monday evening right around 6 p.m. and the restaurant was fairly busy with a nearly full house inside and a few couples enjoying their meal on the patio. I liked that YEAH! BURGER was designed as a fast-casual restaurant where customers place their order at the counter and their food is delivered to the table.  I think this offers a certain convenience for this type of restaurant.

My dinner companion and I started to peruse the menu.  There were so many burger combinations that we were having a hard time deciding.  I was happy to see that YEAH! BURGER offers gluten-free buns and French fries, and was excited to be able pass that information along to my friends who have dietary restrictions.  After about 10 minutes of discussion, we made our selections and placed our order.  We were able to choose from a variety of free toppings, as well as premium toppings that came at an additional cost.  The cashier gave us our cups and a numbered sign, and said our food would be out shortly.  We then got our drinks at the soda fountain, pumped our ketchup and chose a booth inside.  Although we both decided to drink soda, I did notice they had a selection of beers, wines and cocktails.

After only five minutes at our table, our dinner arrived on metal trays.  The amount of food was incredible and we were ready to dig right in.  My dinner guest had the grass-fed beef burger with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, grilled Vidalia onions and a special roasted garlic sauce on a whole wheat bun ($7.99).  He first mentioned that the bun was really surprisingly impressive.  It was springy and went very well with all the components of the burger.

I had the bison burger on the Southern white bun with Pepper Jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, sliced Vidalia onions, avocado and the special YEAH! sauce ($9.99).  All the ingredients were fresh, and the bison patty was cooked just right.  Even on a hot summer day, the large burger was still a refreshing meal.  We also tried the onion rings ($2.99), hand-cut French fries ($2.99), coleslaw ($2.99) and the Southern dog ($5.99).  Although we were unable to finish the heaping helpings of fries and onion rings, we enjoyed the crunch and the salty flavors.  The coleslaw had a cool consistency and a different, yet refreshing mint flavor.  The Southern dog had a spicy kick with its chili and delicious pimento cheese toppings.

By the end of the night, we were stuffed and satisfied.  Out of curiosity, we had to try one of the restaurant’s “concretes” we had heard so much about.  We ordered the cookies ‘n cream concrete ($4.99) and were shocked by the weight and size of the cup that it came in.  Much like a Dairy Queen Blizzard, it was a sweet treat to end our night on and was more than enough to share.

I now know why the burger trend is truly taking off and why YEAH! BUGER has been such a hit.  From the restaurant’s laid back atmosphere to Chef Doty’s quality ingredients and uncomplicated menu, YEAH! BURGER was an enjoyable experience.  I am already planning another visit to see what other burger combinations I can create.
